The Ghost of Piccadilly

Inspired by the life of the poet Lord Byron, the ‘Ghost of Piccadilly’ is the story of a 12th scale historical house which has enjoyed world wide recognition – however, the story is FAR from over!

A Polite Tourist Peregrinates

Today is the celebration of Burns Night and last year having enjoyed a fabulous supper of Haggis - I had to refuse the 'wee dram' of fine Scotch whiskey on offer - BUT had I done so, I would have raised a glass in honour of Lady Caroline Lamb who died on this day in 1828 at the age of forty two. However, it's probably fair to say that even with the passage of time, opinion remains as divided about her in death, as it was in life! #PiccadillyGhost #BloggingByron #RegencyRecondite #LordByron #HomeWithByron #LadyCarolineLamb #BurnsNight
Though life's road, so dim and dirty, I have dragg'd to three-and-thirty. What have these years left to me? Nothing - except thirty-three.' ~ Lord Byron (1821) Cheer up Lord B! Today you've been 'dragg'd' to one-and-thirty plus another two hundred more and I'm going to celebrate your birthday with a large slice of this cake inspired by one of your faithful companions... ‘To frighten them into capitulation; A phantasy which sometimes seizes warriors, Unless they are game as bull-dogs and Fox-terriers' Don Juan (Canto VII Verse 24) #BloggingByron #LordByron #RegencyRecondite
Today is #AdaLovelaceDay - not only a celebration of HER legacy in computer science but also a celebration for ALL women in the fields of mathematics and technology. However, perhaps she was more Byronic than has been previously argued? “Time must show. To say the truth, I have less ambition than I had.... There is in my nervous system such utter want of ALL ballast & steadiness, that I cannot regard my life or powers other than precarious... there are the seeds of destruction, within me. This I know" #ByronBlogging #RegencyRecondite #LordByron #AugustaAdaLovelace
#ThrowbackThursday Cooking is definitely NOT my forte and I’d rather spend my money on books and chocolate rather than any kind of kitchen gadget! However, even I had to create some sort of kitchen in the basement of Piccadilly Terrace NOT that Lord B would be bothered as he preferred a diet of ‘hard biscuits and soda water’... #PiccadillyGhost #BloggingByron #RegencyRecondite #LordByron #HomeWithByron
#ThrowbackThursday "Person understood to be the legal advisers of Lady Byron, have declared "their lips to be sealed up on the cause of the separation between her and myself. If their lips are sealed up, they are not sealed up by me, and the greatest favour they can confer upon me will be to open them." ~ Byron (August 9 1817) #RegencyRecondite #ByronBlogging #LordByron #LadyByron
